and the Black Sea department will I believe return
to the Admiralty. I am in daily expectation of P.
Nassau's passing here, as I believe his French Negotiations
are near finished, and this Event will naturally
give him ground to act upon here. For my part I never
have had nor ever will any part in any sort of
Intrigues here, I have never yet seen a foreigner
who has taken that line, who was not the dupe of it.
I would not advise you to lengthen your stay beyond
the Spring, if you mean at all to return; then will
in all preparing; I mean to go to Petersburgh
during the great Fast, that being the time when
People's Heads being free from Balls, Concerts, &c
think a little of Business, and one may discover
what is about to happen. I should therefore
recommend to you to ship yourself in the Spring
for this port, where you will find me returned
and may know something of the Carte du pays
before you go thither.
