You have been very good, my dear Sam, in sending
me what you had promis'd me, the first sheet of the
Kirkgiss Account is however very dry, uninteresting &
unentertaining & seems to be taken from Took's
Publication of the origin of them & their neighbours
of which there are three Vol.s I bot. at 2d hand some
years ago & cod never prevail on my self to
read. The three last Sheets you sent me come
nearer the present times, & may be of use to go
with your account of the Excursion you made
into the Kirgees Country.

I take this opportunity of returning you the
first Sheet, as also your Friend Madme. Dr Amdelon's
Letter, which gave me pleasure to read.

you may be asured that had it not been for my
being suddenly Seized with the Fit of the Spasm that
happened to attack me but a few minutes before
I sealed up the Letter brought me in the frankt
cover from Major Newton, & when I was almost incapable
of thinking of any thing properly, I might have
recollected there wod have been no occasion for my
sending you either that Letter or any Copy of it
to inform you of his arrival, since it was dated on
the Tuesday before, & he might easily inform himself
otherwise than from me where you was.

I was much pleased to find he was come to
England upon a persuasion, it might give you
pleasure to see him, & that he might bring you
some useful Intelligence from Russia: I find by the
Public Papers that he has been at St James's &
been presented at Court, as Major Newton wch
cou'd not but give his Father great pleasure to
read; & shews that you have made him a Man
of Consequence, & I hope his being an officer in your
Regiment as he says he is, will prove an
agreable Circumstance to you both.

I could wish to know, & desire you will let me
know, whose leave he had to come over? whether
he had been lately at Petersburg, & came immediately
from thence to London, & what was his Route thither?
