Thus they would have into the bargain a subsidiary Panopticon
for employing prisoners after their discharge as well as poor
and other free hands — For this great advantage would they bestow
for a certain number of years the average expence for bread
of the prisoners that have hitherto been mentioned? I cant
help regretting my Brother was not consulted previous to the conclusion
of the business, as the late Mr A. Robert promised he should.
We have letters in which Mr R A. Robert of his own accord speaks of his having given
it out every where as none of his own, disclaimed all merit in it but my Brother's, and
in which he begs of my Brother to withdraw a communication
he had made of it through another channel, and have it all to
him, which accordingly he did. The present Mr A. hold this
same language: but how far they complied with fulfilled that assurance
is matter of some doubt. It was mentioned in the papers as theres
and theres only. My Brother gave them 6 copies of the book, to distribute,
which if they had been could never fail to have prevented the all
these above errors, & many more that might be mentioned.
