My Lord
I am sorry any expression in my letter
should have given room for the supposition that
I attempted to induce a belief that I should be
as matters stand at present be subjected to any penalty
for
If your Lordship will have the goodness
to cast an ey bestow cast a second glance upon my letter,
you will perceive that I the articles in which
the penalty was proposed to be inserted are spoken
of as not signed; it could not therefore have been
any part of my intention meaning to represent myself as
actually subject exposed to any such penalty: my meaning
was the only view light in which I mentioned it was that meant to represent it to your Lordship
of an incident in proof of my meaning was simply to give yourself Lordship an idea of the misfortune which
given by Administration to accused attached by Administration to the circumstance of dispatch, not only by
myself but by Administration, that and
which it was not less my own wish to effectuate.
