14th. Dele in toto. — Too refined — dangerous to
yourself — unnecessary. —
16th — May not this regulation prove very troublesome
& in some measure dangerous — will it not be
apt to draw off attention from employment? —
Would it not be adviseable, that the governor of this
Prison should have a considerable Salary, for
instance £1000 clear from all deductions, to give
the situation that respectability, which it might
want, were the emoluments to be derived solely from the
work performed? — This might be compensated by a
proportionable deduction from the Sum expressed in
the Contract. —
May it not be objected, that an office of such Trust should
be for Life? — The Inventor in case of dismission should
receive a Pension for Life, calculated on the Profits, and
sufficient, to compensate for all Expences, & to reward him for his
inventions.
