In June last You were pleased to assure the D. of Dorset that
every thing should be settled to my satisfaction: you
should have said to that of my heirs
If I speak I am not heard: if I write it is
waste paper. It costs me weeks of sollicitation
to know whether a paper has come under your
eye: and to have learnt this is to have learnt
that it has been neglected
Four weeks are now elapsed since I wrote
Mr Dundas a most pressing letter, as pressing as I could make
it pressing as I thought in argument pressing I am sure in
point of fact praying that if not speeded I might
be discharged: even this favour was too much for
me. You have me in a vice: and nothing
can make you open it let go your hold.
Three months ago I wrote a letter to yourself
praying a supply that for me might be a
timely one for the expences in into which you have
plunged me - You left me to my fate.
For this twelvemonth past I have been an object
of compassion to my friends: when shall I be so
to you? I did not use to court compassion
I have not been used to court compassion: but
compassion now would be a boon to me: I
fear that sentiment is not compassion is no plentiful in plenty with you:
if it were I think I might have come in for
a share of it before now.
