To Dundas Answer

Sir

The satisfaction and gratitude I feel at the
receiving an answer from you of any kind is so and
indeed in the main points of the ample answer with which I am now honoured is so
great as not to be obliterated however it howmuchsoever it may
may be diminished by the proofs I have of the
misfortune that has befallen me of having incurred fallen
your displeasure of being fallen into under your
censure for a stile which to you appears unsuitable
to the occasion. Believe me Sir, whatever you
are pleased to say, I want only to know it in order
to believe it. My great misfortune, I hope it is
not an irreparable one is has been the not my inability to
know it. When you speak I am all confidence:
it is only of your silence can I must confess
but nothing but silence can render me suspicious
As to what you found reprehensible in the stile of
address I am so little attached to it that your
propensity to censure it can not outstrip my readiness
to disavow it I want only to know that it
has incurred your censure to repent of retract it. On this
account to merit your forgiveness I need but state
my feelings simply as they are.

With respect to any
thing in it that may
be found deficient
in respect to is
incompatible with
the respect which
is so much your
due, you can not
be more ready to
censure it than
I to retract and
disavow it. I
say nothing of
should say the same
thing with reference
to those Lords & of
the Treasury, if
the Memorial had
actually been ad
conveyd to them,
but that you know
for it has not been:
your resentment
or rather your kindness
has stopped it.
