Letter IV. to Herald on Rape-licence &c
I need not mention to you Sir, with what
sincere regret affliction not to say abhorrence all true Church of Englandists behold
the foundation of that upstart seat institution and source
of heretical the London University. That
the Council of that hot-bed of heresy should give
concur in giving admission to any such salutary law is was purely
hopeless. Hence one among the many sinister causes
of this indispensable demand for the now so happy
organizing London College. In the general proposition
that in this branch variety is while
those to whom he is best known can least doubt. Since there can be no doubt that his Grace the present Archbishop
of Canterbury fully concurrs with his aforesaid illustrious
predecessor now in Abrahams bosom a circumstance
which was not sufficiently considered by those muddling
cavallere oppositionists who with so little decency opposed to
conspired d'other day to oppose that salutary regulation
by which the fees paid were secured to their appropriate pious uses. So much
for the general position: then as to the distinction in favour
of aristocracy, no one who considers the most noble
family of which his Grace is so bright an ornament,
his ancestors among the first of duties his only sin
the very first Gentleman in England can entertain
a doubt of his approbation of it. Yes, Sir, unless
the rage for of innovation should engage induce the founder
of the London College to set at nought the wisdom and
piety of those predecessors as manifested in the Oxford
University, this security for good health will be allowed
to all who can afford the 3s:6d for it, refused to all who can not,
the refused and with incontestable consistency, as not having in this case
that same virtue: refused
just as justice is administered by Lords Lyndhurst and to those who can afford to pay for it a few hundreds or thousands of pounds for it as the case may be, refused to all who can not:
Lord Eldon choosing them all the while.
