Constitut. Code (Rationale – Terms of Government? 1828 May 3)
Delusive locutions = words and phrases
Paternal Father: applied to the chief of the Government or any other
member of it.
Paternity implies power. Hence the inducement to make
use of this epithet: power independent of any choice on the
part of those over whom it is exercised. As between parent
and offspring, the existence of such power is made not
merely of use and convenience but of necessity: without it the
species could not have existence. Applied to political
rulers special cases of necessity excepted and which are easily
distinguishable and determinable the exercise of so far from being matter of
necessity is matter of an abuse. There is no need of it.
There is no natural affection to soften and attempt restrict the use
of it. There are No need functionary is there who can make
any tenable claim to the assumption of such an appellation.
So far from being an endearment, it in the very eye that is
not blinded by prejudice. An overgrown baby – a spoilt
child, a half-witted being in human shape – an animal
where his situation renders it impossible to know half as much
of the word or of human nature as everyone else knows
a creature who rises not so much
above the common level in anything as in effectiveness
and self conceit, a spendthrift – perpetually desiring and with an appetite perpetually
over fed and perpetually perpetually craving that which a man in relation to
any ordinary tolerably moderately well deserving member of the community should either
by himself or by others stiled father is an act of presumption
calling not for acceptance but repulsion which to be
repealed ought at least to be repelled.
Pastor Shepherd. So far as fleecing goes, yes: fleecing
the performed in all the matters: slaughtering over the negroids. Yes as far
as dominancy goes: anything but the regarding them as objects
of sympathy, and as such caring for them.
