1823. June 13
Constitutional Code

To compleat the data for to the of
blasphemy or to this appalling word is commonly
added by the Judge in particular a of other words in nature by which an inter
proportion is constituted. These are Christianity is part and
parcel of the law of the land. So to the circumstance of the
discourse in question being contrary to Christianity this is
what is always assumed, assumed without so much as an
attempt at proof.

But nor as to Christianity being part and parcel of the
law of the land. If by Christianity anything is meant
ut is the religion of Jesus<. If by Christianity being the law of
the land anything is meant it is – that the law of Jesus
is the law of the land. If in anything ever done in and

by Jesus the law of Jesus is to be found in the principles given by Jesus it must be in
the Sermon on the Mount. Now then for sample take some of those principles
and suppose them to be the law of the land: and to
those purposes suppose they at the hands of the legislator
to have received the sanction of law.
