Prospectus of a Work entilled Plan of a Penal Code
general design
The Design of it is to Exhibit a Pattern of Perfection
in matter of Penal legislation, towards which the
Laws of the several nations may be made to approach
more or less according to their local Circumstances.
The Body of the work is divided into Two Books
In Book 1. Under the Tille of the Several sorts of
actions which seem proper to be made
offences. Are proposed the definition of
Each offence; with the several Grounds of
Justification, aggravation, & Extenuation
therein to belonging — and the Punishment
that seem respectively competent to the
Simple, the aggravated, and the — extenuated offence. As the matter of
a Law depends essentially upon the form
or words of it, the very words are every
where proposed so far as the same
Provision + + Disposition
Legislat. appears to be equally applicable
to the Exigencies of all Countries.
Where the local Variation, the Text of the
Law is broken off, and, instead of it
general observations are given by way
of Instructions to the Legislator.
