CHARLES VYSE, 30, LUDGATE-STREET, Manufacturer ofBRITISH STRAW to the Royal Family, is gratified in announcing to
the Nobility, Gentry, and the Public, that, at the particular request of a
numerous and distinguished circle in the Fashionable World, he intends introducing
so early this Spring as Monday, the 7th of March, the whole of his
NEW and SPLENDID SPRING PATTERNS, comprising between five and
six thousand of the Real TUSCAN STRAW, which, for their extreme rich
colour, and fineness of texture, surpass anything of the kind ever manufactured
in this country. An immense variety of Brunswick and Real Whole
Dunstable Straws; Children's Hats of every size and quality; with two entire
different modes of manufacturing the above Straws into Ladies' Fancy Dress
Hats, invented by, and to be had only of him, which will be received for their
extreme novelty, chaste, elegant, and lady-like appearance, as the most tasteful
and pleasing articles of Dress that have appeared for some years past.

C. V. cannot but acknowledge the very flattering and extensive patronage
bestowed during the whole of last season on his particular and hitherto
unattempted Mode of manufacturing the Tuscan and British Straws, which was
greatly augmented by his making them not only Novel and Elegant, but at
the same time remedying the defect which, till last Summer, was the cause of
the total absence of every description of Straw from the Fashionable World,
that of rendering them extremely becoming; and he flatters himself he has
this Spring so continued this and other important improvements, as to feel the
greatest confidence in submitting them to the Public.

AT a numerous Meeting of CALICO PRINTERS, WholesaleDealers and Traders, engaged in the Calico Trade, in the City of London,
held at the Guildhall Coffee House, London, on Tuesday, the 22nd Day of
February, 1831.

Mr. WILLIAM COOPER in the Chair.

RESOLVED,
That to repeal the Duty on Printed Calicoes, without an allowance to the
Calico Printers, Wholesale Dealers and Traders, for the Duty actually paid to
Government for their Stocks on hand, would be cruel, unjust, and oppressive
to the fair Trader, and throw upon him the whole loss on such Stock, instead of
dividing the same with the public, who will derive all the advantages of the
repeal of the Duty.

That Stocks on hand, having paid duty, will be immediately encountered
in the Market by fresh printed Goods of the same patterns and description,
which will be exempt from duty; so that it will be absolutely impossible to
dispose of such Stocks, without a loss equal to the Duty; and the Duty amounts,
on an average, from 25 to 30 percent., on the value of the Goods.

That is an apprehension were to be entertained, that fraud would be
committed, in case an allowance of Duty be made on Stocks on hand, such
apprehension would be delusive and unfounded; for that every piece of goods which
has paid Duty is marked, numbered, and stamped by the Excise, whereby the
fact of payment of Duty on each piece can be easily and satisfactorily
ascertained, and all fraud prevented.

That the Excise Laws expressly provides, that upon payment of Duty on
Printed Calicoes, the same shall be returned and allowed on Exportation, without
any limitation of time, and as the Duty on Stocks on hand has been paid
in conformity with such laws, a refusal to pay back the Duty on Exportation
would be a violation of the Law, and of good faith, destructive of all
confidence in Government, and highly injurious to the fair Trader.

That the Stocks on hand in London, which have paid Duty, are chiefly of
such patterns and quantity as are adapted to the Home Trade only, and
consequently their exportation at any period would be attended with great loss; and
in respect of Stocks on hand suited for exportation, the allowance of a drawback
for three months only would cause an immense loss to the Holders, as it
would be impossible to dispose of them in so short a time to Foreigners,
without making a great sacrifice in price.

That the foregoing Resolutions be presented to the Chancellor of the
Exchequer, and that he be requested to make provision when repealing the Duty on
Printed Calicoes, for the allowance of the duty already paid on the Stocks in hand.

That a Committee be appointed, with full power to take such measures as
they shall think best calculated to save the fair Trader from the ruinous and
unjust burthen, which would be thrown on him, in case an allowance of the
Duty paid on Stocks on hand were not made.

That the following be such Committee, with liberty to add to their number,
and that any five be a Quorum:—
Mr. Isaac Lawrence
Thomas James
William Cooper
John Ray
William Dudley
Charles Rogers
Mr. Joseph Thompson
George Bateman
Jonathan Crocker
George Graham
William Williams
Andrew Caldecot
Mr. Thomas Allan
Richard W. Cole
Fred. Wiltshire
Robert Burra
Hugh Andrews

That the Resolutions be transmitted to every principal Town in the United
Kingdom, with a request that the parties interested do make known to their
Representatives in Parliament the grievance to which they would be exposed
in case the Duty paid on Stocks on hand were not allowed.

That these Resolutions be also sent to the Representatives in Parliament
for London, Westminster, Southwark, and Middlesex, requesting their attention
to the interest of the Trade.

That the Resolutions be published in the Morning and Evening Papers.
WILLIAM COOPER, CHAIRMAN.

BY THE KING'S LETTERS PATENT.ROBERT DAWS, 17, Margaret-street, Cavendish-square, Inventorand Patentee of the RECUMBENT CHAIRS, &c. the advantage of
which consists in the simple movement of the back and arms, forming from
twelve to fifteen positions, their elegant appearance the comfort they afford,
and their little extra expense.

'It is solid, handsome, and compact, and the contrivance so complete, that
the required position is attained by the slightest movement possible, which it is
but justice to a most ingenious man to introduce to the particular notice of our
readers.'---Examiner.

Possessing these advantages, it is not dearer than a common easy chair.'---
Times.

There is a few, if any, more worthy of commendation, with reference to its
immediate results merely, than the Patent Recumbent Chair of Mr. Daws.'---
Court Journal.

This Chair is sometimes made admirably portable, for the convenience of
travelling.

TEETH.--Mr. A. Jones, Surgeon-Dentist to their RoyalHighnesses the Princess Augusta and the Duchess of Gloucester, His
Majesty Louis-Philip I. and Royal Family of France, and Her Serene Highness
the Princess Esterhazy, 64, Grosvenor-street, Bond-street, respectfully invites
attention to his newly-invented TERRO-METALLIC TEETH, as eminently
possessing every superiority that can be desired over the various substances
offered to the public for similar purposes. Their colour is unchangeable, and
they may be had in every gradation of shade, to suit any that many be remaining
in the mouth. In point of economy, the Terro-Metallic Teeth will be found
highly advantageous to the wearer, as, in durability, they are equal to several
successive sets of the Teeth ordinarily supplied. Mr. A. J. continues stopping
decayed teeth with his unrivalled Anodyne Cement (allaying in one minute
the most excruciating pain), by which means carious teeth are wholly preserved
and rendered useful, even if broken nearly close to the gums. This peculiar
and invaluable composition which, upon application, speedily becomes as
hard as enamel, will not decompose with the heat of the stomach, and resists
completely the effects of acids, atmospheric air, &c. At home from 10 till 5.

more acceptable present can be made than a real good pair of Razors, and a
Strop that will keep them in repair?

The worst of it is, Mechi lives in the City, No. 4, Leadenhall-street; but the
saving of from 25 to 40 percent. will no doubt induce those who live West,
and know the value of money, to come so far East, and he is constantly sending
to all parts of London and its vicinity. He warrants every article of the best
material and workmanship, and never hesitates a moment to exchange any
razors, or other purchase said to be defective: small profits, ready money, and
good articles, being Mechi's system.

Lists of prices may be had gratis.
