5. Arbitratrix

Delays upon delays
fees upon fees costs
upon costs spun out
in the Reconcilement
Courts

After delays upon delays and fees upon fees, and
costs upon costs, concerns now the proceedings in the Reconcilement
Court spin out to the utmost length. 100
Judges "advise, the substance thereof ... reduced into
"writing by a memorandum" that memorandum "signed by
"the parties (that is to say as well the party who would be ruined by its advice
"if taken, as the party who would be enriched by it) "signed
"by the parties and entered in a book of the Registrar ...
"called the Reconcilement Book, and such memorandum ...
"final and binding on the said parties, and an
"examined copy thereof ... given in evidence and ..."
having "the effect of a covenant under seal." (Good
gracious! a covenant under seal! firm as a rock!) in
"all Courts whatsoever."

The Examination copies
if laid on the Court of
Chancery table would
produce nothing but
laughter

Suppose now now (not that there is any possible means
of its being so) suppose now one of these examined copies
laid upon the table in the Court of Chancery and "given
in evidence." Hark now: a laugh! It is Lord Lyndhursts.
Hark again a roar of laughter. Register Clerks. Silk Gowns
Shift Gowns, Solicitors, all in chorus.

The laugh expired, behold now the given covenant
under seal sent to Westminster School with his Lordships
Complements to Dr , to be made into paper darts
each with a pen at the end, for the amusement of the
Scholars.

That is all suitors
in the Reconcilement
Courts would get

This is what his honest suitor, or suitors in any number
on both sides would get were they unhappy enough to be in
p into one of our learned legislators Reconcilement Courts
But the device ingenuity is too transparent, and nobody will be deceived
by it.
