10. "The Bishop's returns
contain only the salaries
of the Curates of licenced
non residents; & are not
complete as to these —
Exempts Curates not
required to be returned
— no return from St David's

obedience could not be
enforced. A hold on the
Bishops was wanting, &
one on the Bishops by
the Lords or King — The
trumpet of rebellion
sounded and one delinquent
held up without
disguise. p.6.

In 1810 the 1st year —
as to St Davids the blank
is complete p.7

From the other dioceses,
there are returns
containing particulars
as well as totals. p.7

In 1811 — in St Davids
Curates 225
Residents 33
192 non residents

If in these 192 the incumbents
had been resident,
there had been
no Curates. So 192 benefices
out of 225 have
no resident ministers.

the list, another kind
of delinquency p.8

In 1811. St David
repented, but in St Asaph's
returns — from 45 total
Curates in a former year
they sunk to 2 — Resident
incumbents 0 — p.8

What the cause of this
curious phenomenon?
not mortality, for it
would have been proclaimed
by a fast. p.8

Nor by any qualm
of conscience in the incumbents
— miracles have
ceased. p.8.

But in the natural
state of things — by the
effort of 1810 the force
and good humour of the
saint was exhausted.

In 1811 only 1/22 of it
remained — 2 only came
to him, & 2 only he returned.

Was this back sliding
(worse than original
transgression followed
by repentance) known
to H. at the time of his
speech, or to Ld Buckinghamshire
his colleague
the Bishop's pupil. The
duty towards colleagues
the first of official duties
If St Asaph were to be
meddled with, touch
not mine anointed
would have been the word.
