Governor Plumer of New Hampshire (US) to Bentham
United States, New Hampshire.
Epping October 5th 1818.
Dear Sir,
Agreeably to my intimation to you in my
letter of the 2d of October 18187, I communicated. to the
legislature of New Hampshire at their last session, the
papers that you had previously transmitted to me.
They referred them to a committee, who reported that
the further consideration of them should be postponed
to their next session, which report the legislature
accepted. What course the legislature will eventually
adopt, in relation to the principles you so ably
recommend, is not certain; but tis a fact that your
writings, where they are read & candidly examined,
produce an effect favorable to the rights & interests of
the people.
Under other envelopes I have sent you a letter
from my eldest son, who is a member of the legislature,
& and also a copy of my last public message to the
legislature.
