Agitation & Contribution.

This Society shot at as a</lb> butt for ridicule.

By this higher power and influence, the idea of
support to such the instrument political pillar of governance to denomination, and
by such supporters were treated as shot at as a proper
butt for ridicule. Not altogether Nor was it altogether an
inapt one. On the one hand The Statute or denomination being little better
than a string of vague generalities, so constituted as will
be present to minimize any effective ban, not for as it
should seem so much an intention to produce any more
salutary effect: on the other hand the association being but in
no very considerable degree furnished with this individual
by whose popular force respect and attachment is wont to be obtained
and secured. So must for the reign last past.

In present days his proposed Society
for the support of Magna
Charta presents itself
under more favourable
circumstances.

In the present days, the proposed object of support
namely Magna Charta presents itself to view under more
favourable circumstances. Anterior by so many centuries, Magna
Charta
stands exempt from the rec reproach of nebulosity
by which as the secondary instrument so much more conducive of comparatively later date stands
exposed, as above: delay, denial, sale of justice—all
these are names of grievances most distin in this nature intelligible,
in fact understood, and more extensively as vile as
felt.

6
Benefits derived from
the weakness of Monarchy
divided between Magna
Charta and Charta de
Foresta.

For The benefits for which the people of England were and
are entitled as to the mental weakness of their Monarch, of King John
in the first place — of King Henry the third in the next place, the
relief granted was divided between two instruments. Magna
Charta — the Great Paper: (for Charta is the land paper) and the
Charta de Forester the Paper enacting the Forest Law.
