(Extract (1) from Peel's Speech on Criminal Law, Mar. 9, 1826, affirming necessity for law to be intelligible, & comparing foreign law advantageously with Eng. law – (2) A. Hammond's 'Letter to the Different Circuits, Michaelmas 1826 – Reduction of criminal law to writing – (3) Extract from Hammond's Corresondence with the Commissioners of New York State.). Also Lord Bacon's remarks on codification & J.B.'s observations thereon. Rough draft & fair copy.
