J.B. to Pitt on Humprheys
The harshness with which I have found myself under the
necessity of speaking of several of your measures, on pain of having unless I had
sacrificed the interest of the public to my own case, has
caused and continues to cause me more uneasiness
than, if any, it can cause you. When I really feel approbation
my critique on Mr Humphreys plan will show
whether I am backward to give in giving expression to it. Your
approbation would have been a treasure to me, but I must
give up the hope of it: I can not afford to purchase it pay the price for it.
