Lincoln's Inn
15 Jany. — 27.

Mr. Humphreys presents his respects to Mr Bentham,
and begs to acknowledge the favour of the separate part of
Mr Bentham's review of Mr. H's observations on the laws of real
property. - Mr. H. was yesterday occupied in reading the article,
pen in hand, as he deemed it too precious a study to let a single
reflection resulting from it escape him. He will be bold enough
however, even in this his first communication, to point out one signal
error which pervades the whole article, namely that, in speaking
of the author and the reviewer, master is miswritten for Scholar,
and so the reverse.

Mr. Humphreys proposes to avail himself the services
of Mr. Butler of this Inn, whose pupil he formerly was,
for enabling him to pay his personal respects to Mr Bentham.

Mr. H. begs Mr Bentham's acceptance of a Letter which
he lately addressed to Mr. Sugden, in reply to some strictures of
that Gentleman o the proposed measure of a Code. Mr. S. has
since, in a third edition, withdrawn from the discussion.
