What then is the purpose of this obtrusion? It
is neither more nor less than to learn what which of two courses, after the
perusal of the Note in question will be least unacceptable to you —
bringing in a Bill yourself for the proposed amendment, or
having
to make finding answers to a Motion from another to that effect,
from a some quarter more or less adverse.
To the value of a time such as his, the Right Honorable Gentleman
himself to whom it is become my painful duty to be thus
troublesome to, can not be more fully sensible than the
individual by whom he is thus troubled. For husbanding it
to the utmost so important a part of the public property, an already employed, and I hope not disapproved
expedient, is now repeated. This is the 7th of the month. From
and after the 15th, silence will be regarded and acted upon
as a declaration of indifference.</p>
With all appropriate respect,
I am, Sir Yours
Jeremy Bentham.
Right Hon. Robert Peel
&c &c &c
P.S. In the event of it's being the destiny of address to receive
an express answer, saying, that by yourself or some person
on your behalf, a motion for the amendment in question
will be made, it is my humble request to be informed
whether the communication here made will or will not be
made mention of as the cause of it.
