Montauban 4 Dec 1818.

Cambronaro has received a long letter from his friend Mendoza which being in
Spanish a great part was read to me in French. You and your works are spoken
of in the strongest possible terms of the adjunct of immortal or some such token
of superiority. He speaks even with envy of Carbronaro on account of his enjoying
the acquaintance of your brother. He has applied for and hopes soon to obtain
his renewal to this department so that he may reside here likewise. As to his translation
of Traité de Legislation" he has not only finished it but given it to be
printed and is in treaty with a Bookseller at Nimes to forward it to the New
Governments in South America. He does not know any thing of any man
of the name of Rivadavia but in consequence of his having received from
him his direction at Paris he has written to a friend at Paris to make enquiries
about him and expresses a readiness to join with Rivadavia or with
any one from whom any assistance may be expected in the translation and
publication of your works. I should have wished to have had the Letter and
to have sent you a translation of it, but this I could not effect.
