any convents, such doubts shall be resolved by the government
with reference always, to the convenience, as well of the
public, as of the ecclesiastics interested—

18. Untill the Congress (quere cortes) shall have legislated upon the
plans of public instruction & missions, the Escolapian monks
& the missionaries for the provinces of Asia, shall be exempted
from the provisions of the three immediately preceeding articles—

19. Articles 8. 9. 10 & 11 apply equally to the convents & religious
communities of nuns— Every nun who shall be secularized
shall enjoy a pension of 100 Ducats—

20. All property, moveable & immovable, of the monasteries
convents & Colleges, which shall be successively suppressed
in virtue of Articles 14, 15. 17 & 18 shall be applied to the
public service; subject however to such services (cargas de
justicia
) as well civil as ecclesiastical, as have heretofore
attached to the possessions of such property—

21. If among the religious communities of either sex,
which are not suppressed, there shall be any whose
incomes are greater, than necessary for the decent subsistence
of the members, & for the other objects of their
institution, all the surplus shall be applied to the
public service—

22. Every regular ecclesiastic whose house may be
suppressed, may take away with him the furniture
which has been appropriated to his particular use—

23. Government may direct the application of such suppressed
convents as may appear fitted for establishments of
public utility— In like manner it may provide for the
decorous continuance of religious worship, in those places
which the piety of the faithful has rendered celebrated for
sanctity from ancient times—

24. The political chiefs shall take charge of all the pictures,
books & other things appertaining to the libraries of suppressed
convents, & shall transmit inventories thereof to the government
