1820 Nov. 28
J.B. to Mora

I showed M. de Colomb your copy of the letter of Canga
Arguelles to you about the paper money: he said he had received
official information that directions would come to him on
that subject but that none such had as yet come.

In yours of 30 Octr to me the last as yet received
you prefer keeping my works for the presentation of them to the
Cortes on the 1st of March to the consigning them immediately
to the Library: I perfectly agree with you.

But the second parcel of my works whi that
second parcel which by the well-judged but unfortunate zeal
of Blaquiere, were sent to Mr Arguelles then Minister of
Justice and which in one of my letters to you I gave
instructions for endeavouring to obtain from him, and
sending to Portugal – about this I have never heard
any thing. To the incivility of not ordering a Clerk
to give me information of the receipt of the first parcel, he
can not surely have added or add the injustice of refusing
to redeliver the second, sent by as it was to him on the
ground of a mere mistake. I can not but suppose some
designed communication from him to me has miscarried.

As my four letters on the liberticide laws have gone
to Portugal as well as to Naples to a trusty and zealous liberal, it seems not improbable
that they will speedily be published in both countries – and, if at
all probably before they can be in Madrid by you. Your
edition may not improbably be of necessity more or less castrated and changed
particularly as to what personally concerns and
the Colony-Minister: if so the difference will be curious and
instructive: it will serve as a test and order of the degree
of liberty in Spain.
