J.B. to Arguelles
2
2
I hold You are pleased to honour me. I receive with
acknowledgment for the honour the general kind you are pleased to make
to me of your services. Serve your own country faithfully,
here and in the same proportion you serve me and
there in no other way in which you can do so: this I
say to you, and this I say it to be understood to say to every other individual
of that country to which services are so
faithfully and zealously directed: fully serve at the same
time how severe the task hard the service is which if either in possession
or in expectation he is a member of the ruling few I
am thus calling for at his hands.
