Mora's Imprisonment &c

( ) [But you shall be un secret, literally in secret: meaning
in a state of secret confinement: in close confinement
perhaps what in England is meant by close confinement
whatsoever that may be. In Under the boasted law of England
the real condition of the prisoner remains undetermined
by the text of any law and is accordingly left to be determined
in each individual by the arbitrary will and
pleasure: will and pleasure and of what individual?
of this man of that man of the other man is out of
in a word of nobody knows who: should this be his ends
be as the same case under Spanish law it is a
matter state of things which this much so can it be to be regretted is
not at all to be wondered at.
( ) (Extras state whatever it be the prisoner is from that
time) From that time to what time? Answer from the 30th
of December the day on which as above he was committed
to the prison in question to the 24th of January, that being
the date of the letter with by which this narrative is
introduced.
Members of this secret confinement as it is called
what is the effect? To this I can find an answer. One effect
not produced by it is the receipt of certain books and papers
for in an accompanying letter certain books and papers
are mentioned as having in the course of this time been
received. This sort of communication such as it is, what is
it that it has had for its cause? the execution given to the appointed description of the prison
execution or dispensation or evasion?
