Extract of a letter from Senr Carvalho
Lisbon to Dr. Rocha London

"28th Augt 1821

"I have received your letter of the 12 July
and 2 others of the venerable Mr Bentham, which
besides the honor they do me, give me great instruction
and besides that it seems to me by his
light and easy style that he does not possess that
formal character which always gives to the English
an air of heaviness. You will recommend
me to him and tell him very soon I intend to
answer his letters. I expect you in the Spring
& shall be delighted to find you as Mr Bentham
describes you to me, the same Democratitus you
were formerly."
