Introduction for Nunez's Letter to Bentham.

Some time ago a Spanish work having for its title "Espirita
Bentham. Sistema de la Ciencia Social" was sent to Mr Bentham,
not by the author, by but by a friend then at Paris, who had
bought it at Madrid. Without any regular perusal of it – an
operation which neither his time nor the state of his eyes, admitted
of, a few minutes,⊞ ⊞ sufficed for impressing upon his mind sufficient convey to Mr Bentham a lively
sense of the intelligence as well as the extensive benevolence, (not to speak
of the personal kindness to himself) that stands so conspicuous
in it. He accordingly addressed to the author in English
a letter in which these sentiments were expressed. For a long
time he remained in ignorance whether his letter had reached
the hand to which it was addressed: when at length he received came to hand
by the post, a letter, not in writing but a Letter-press: a circumstance
sufficiently . The following is a translation,
in the penning of which the prime object was has been the rendering
it as correct at a likeness of the original, as the nature of the two
languages would permit.
