Law Amendment or Duelling extingishable
The time is ripe for the abolition of at least this tyranny.
Under the hand of the legislature, public opinion led astray out of the right tract by one
delusion may be brought into the right path tracts by another. Party
insulted and party insulting are boys two boys on a see-saw board: the
depression of the one is the elevation of the other. The author of the
wrong by inflicting in a conspicuous manner suffering on the party marked out by him for the receipt
of wrong it brought down upon him th at by the hands of Public a portion of contempt.
To restore the balance, Of the Judge by inflicting in a still more
conspicuous manner suffering in an appropriate shape upon the
person of the author of the wrong, pours down upon him also
by the hands of Public opinion a still greater portion of contempt
removing itself from the head of the party wronged, the contempt
now finally either in the head of the aggressor.
