Ch. II Codification: or
Ch. III Remedies Duelling Enactments
6. Succession-craving
6. or 2. Succession- craving Duellist. Of this species of
Duellist match is made for little reason other than that of
showing that he it has not been overlooked. By this denomination
understand a man who being such in expectancy to a portion
of the matter of wealth in the possession of another man, seeks
to engage him in a quarrel for the purpose of coming into possession
by putting him to death. In this case so obvious infamous and
at the same time so obvious is the motive that in this case the invitation
presents little chance of being accepted. It is the never nefarious flagitious:
inasmuch in that it is that nothing less than the death of the
intended victim that the object can be attained: whereas in the
several cases proceedings it may alike be assured by disablement permanent
or temporary, in consequence of contest, or in the case without contest
by intimidation: in which latter last case however depredation be profit to
any extent at the expence of the party wronged may be the result.
