Collectanea for Duelling extinguished
Morng. Herald June 16, 1829. Extract.
Paris, June 6th
A box on the face, given to a gentleman on Monday
evening last, at the theatre called the Gymnase, has made
a great noise here, and is still the subject of general conversation.
The following is the current version of the affair:–

of their pleadings cannot be too severely censured, and is
considered here a great nuisance. In an action for
defamation, which was lately brought against the
Editors of the Quotidienne by the Editors of the Constitutionnel, M. Berryer, jun., an Eminent Barrister,
engaged on behalf of the former paper, introduced,
in the course of his address, some shameful personal
observations against several of the proprietors of
the Constitutionnel, and amongst others, he threw out
insinuations against M. Evaritte Dumoulin, without
actually mentioning his name, but in a manner
sufficiently intelligible. M. Dumoulin was at
Rome at the time, but, on his return, he waited
upon M. Berryer, told him of the calumny, and
insisted upon his retracting the offensive expressions
in a formal and public manner. M.
Berryer asked some days to consider the matter;
after this delay, M. Dumoulin called on him
again, but he was not at home, and M. Dumoulin
only got an evasive letter on the
subject of his visit, and it was evident that
the other not only refused to retract, but was
anxious to avoid all communication with M.
Dumoulin. The latter being resolved on having
satisfaction, determined to give M. Berryer a blow
the first time he met him. On last Monday
evening
