Of the Principles of human action.

SportAnother principle for which of mischief in human
nature is what may be called Sport or
Wantonness. The persons in whom this propensity
is most apt to display itself are children:
As a person advances towards maturity
it grows weaker and weaker on two accounts: it
is supplanted Men are diverted from it by other regal propensities and it is counteracted
by the increasing opposite influence of the moral,
the political, and perhaps the religious sanctions.
The pers objects on which it is most apt to exercise
itself are the animals of the brute creation:
because on them it is owing to their comparative weakness exercised most securely, and
with least controul from the moral and religious without any controul as yet from the political and without any controul as yet from the political, and

and the sort of behaviour it gives birth to is in
that case called known by the name of teasing.
The sort of mischief by in which it is most apt

the most striking and most various phenomena.
These pains are the most apt to be of the
uneasy kind, because those of the acute kind

appearance such as are most apt to raise a sympathetic indignation
in the breast of those of whom the
little tormentor may stands in awe.
