Constitutional Code
A consequence is – that on this side an inward feeling of embarrassment
and consequent depression of spirit is an
accompaniment of an excludable inmate of every
mind which stands ranged on that side: the blushing the outward marks of accompanied
with the reality anger the irritation, the outward marks
of which are so naturally called forth may conceal
but do can not lessen the intensity of the inward feeling may
to a greater or less degree conceal the inward feeling but
they can not lessen it.
In a word the mens conscia recto with of the Latin part
to the mind conceives mind consciousness of its own rectitude will when
analysed be found composed of the elements just mentioned,
and the vigour derived from this consciousness is a product
the existence of which has been confessed not only declared by those who
have felt the most of it, and not contradicted but assented
to even by those who have felt most strongly felt the absence
of it: for what they have seen is – that to deny the existence of it would be to confess
in their own instance the absence of it from their own breasts.
As on the one side the mens conscia recto is
that which acts so on the other side it is the mens
conscia sorti: on the one side it is the mind of the
strong man: on the other side the mind of a rickety child.
