1826. Jany. 18 1827 Nov. 18.
Law Amendment Constitutional Code Collectanea Propositions
Ch. III Judiciary collectively
§. 25. Attendance

Morn. Chron. 16 Jany or 17?

A very large proportion of the prisoners tried
at our Assizes (Exeter) last week were charged with
offences of a most trivial description, so much so
as repeatedly to call forth the surprise of the
Court at their being at all brought before it. The
Judge and the Grand Jury also made a serious
complaint that, several of these prisoners had
been in prison over so many as two General
Sessions
: which not only added to the
weight of business at the Assizes; but was really
cruel to the prisoners themselves many of
whom might be innocent and would therefore
be unnecessarily and unjustly imprisoned
beyond the time fairly requisite for their
trials.
