To renderdemonstratemake its incompetency evident in every point
of view we have but to skim once more over go over once more ground
already pretty well trodden: known: and the reader whose
mind has gone along with what has been so fully
stated with relation to Judges in general must
have anticipated in a considerable degree whatever
can be said of tribunals composed of Judges of
this particular description. Properties to be wished
for on the part of the persons of whom the establishment
is to be composed, + + probity, exertion and intelligence: properties which in consequence
are to be wished looked for in the establishment
itself which is thus to be compared, +2 +2 rectitude of decision, promptitude and ; these were the
general heads which directed governed our inquiries relative to
Judges in general: these of course are the heads
which will govern what remains to be said of
this species of Judges in particular.
Good and bad are terms of reference and comparison.
The ot system establishment with which the Jury
system will herein all along be more or less explicitly
compared and contrasted directly or locally contrasted
or compared
will of course be that which the preceding
enquiries have pointed out as the best possible one:
an establishment composed of single Judges placed and kept dependent
in manner as above stated in a state of perfect dependence upon the people.
