The name Be the situation office what it may, and that a
lucrative one, the more money a man pays for it, the less, in
point of neat profit, he gets by it: and the less he gets
by it, the more substantial and conclusive the proof he
gives that what attaches him to the office situation is not money
but something else: and no other bond of attachment
can be more obvious or more natural, than the exercise
of the function of it, especially where the functions are in their nature
so far from being universally unpleasant, that are
instances are where they are exercise the pleasure
attached to the exercise of them, is the known cause of
their being voluntarily exercised, no advantage being in any other shape derivable from
them, in every other shape.

From a man's liking his business it does not
absolutely follow to a certainty that he will do it well. But what
is matter of certainty is that a man who does not
like his business will not never do it so well, as
the same man would do it, if he did like it.
