In the mode of judicature thus effected, the following
results features are involved.

1. A declaration solemnly and deliberately and solemnly
made delivered if of a matter of fact as true, if the facts
he Deliberately and solemnly delivered as true, a declaration
of the falshood of which a man is fully conscious,
viz. that he entertains a certain opinion when in truth
he entertains the opposite one: – and but this is lying.

2. This declaration delivered under the sanction of the
ceremony solemnity called an oath: which solemnity is by
the self-conscious falsity of the declaration violated:
and that by thus there the lying is converted and aggravated
into perjury.

The occasion on which this perjury is committed
is that of judicature: and among the causes on the occasion of
which it is committed are those of the highest importance:
to the individual in one way, to the whole
community in another: causes of life and death in which life d on one
side, public security in respect of life and all other possessions
on the other side: and as often as by the
number of real opinions thus sacrificed denied and the number
of opposite opinions thus delivered in the of them the
opinion entertained by the minority has the effect of
determining constituting the decision of the whole as if it had been the opinion of entertained by the majority, the consequence is false judgment verdict:
a false judgement to the delivery of which all twelve are thus
made parties and accomplice.

4. The means process operation by which this perjury is suborned are is
such as at their its commencement indeed has nothing afflictive
in its nature: but if in that state the apprehension of what it will
end in fails of producing
the desired effect, it is continued on till it being accompanied with ends in a lingering and excruciating death: – and this is torture.
