An attempt to embrace circumscribe the whole assemblage of
those artifices was among the prodigies of the g
displayed by the genius of Aristotle at that early
age. On his list, there are not many, though
there are some of which the influence would is apt to be
very sensibly in this our time considerable at the present stage of society.

But the remarkable thing is – that in all the
2000 years or thereabouts that have elapsed between
that and the present age no attempt and after
the vast stock of facts additional incidents particulars that might have been added
by observation and experience no attempt seems ever
to have made to give either correctness
or compleatness to the list: at any rate not with
any laudable and honest view.

With apposite views In a dishonest view attempts of this nature
are not altogether without example have here and there been made: but neither
in any such instructive order, or with any such dignified
design of universal comprehension as was were manifested
by the Grecian sage.

Cicero's book de Oratore is the work of a
man, who being habituated in the practice of deception,
and proud of the repute faculty of exercising it, and
the reputation of having exercised it with success,
took a pleasure in the idea of enabling teaching
others how to tread in the same dishonest steps.

the addition of the latin termination in ius to his name
trod in the same if not with equal splendor
with congenial and kindred views.
