1809

Under the fee gathering system as often as any thing in
the way of improvement has been introduced, such are the every where
except when forced on by movements of blind impressions among the people
such every where are the carriers by which it has been introduced — such the rate
of progress progression at which it has been made.

The use of this example is if possible to put men
upon considering whether inasmuch as, without the ruin of
the constitution, the ruin of practice of ruining twelve good men and turn every one of the
as turn a mistake in judicature was regarded as calling for
corrective, came to be laid aside, so peradventure might
the practice of forcing by fear of torture into perjury any
member of the same from one to eleven good respectable personages.

The misfortune is that in the saving the whole member
from ruin the Judges together with those other wise and learned
persons their associates in interest or where the matter depended could not
but see their advantage; whereas how may such prospect
could open be presented to them by from the saving of a part of the number
from habitual forgery, seems a problem altogether insolvable.

One only chance and alas! how faint a one! presents
itself of any such improvement, if it be one: and that is
if the people I mean always where any thing of reform is in question
that minute part of it called the thinking part by the mouths of such of them as are in Parliament should join
in addressing saying itself to those sages Your artifice your
or if the worst attributes be more acceptable to you your imbecility
is unmasked, and we will not endorse it any longer.
Such, if consisting even among human qualities such would
naturally or rather necessarily on this occasion be the if not the language,
the determination of all thinking men to whom either religion
or morality were objects of regard.
