1821 Jany 14
What is more Much greater is the advantage
which the particular sinister interest has over the universal
interest in so far as depends on secret influence.
Of the two modes of secret influence that of which is exercised by understanding an understanding
comes in only in aid of the inference legitimate influence of appropriate
facts and arguments: it is the demand for it is not therefore
altogether exclusive, its support force is not altogether indispensable
even in support of this sort of a bad cause.
But it is the peculiar and exclusively possessed attribute of a particular
interest to at once to furnish a demand and to create
facilities for the supply of sinister and corruptive influence.
The universal interest – the people at large – Engaged in support
of their interest of the universal interest the people at
large – the subject many – never laws see nor can have see stationed a
supporter where established in habits of intimacy with the official
person a supporter by whom articles in effect when it at the table of the official
person their interest can be support an intimate
whom by any gift or any other favour in their power
they can engage come at to induce him to engage
that same official person to by the lie of his own individual present
interest to support the universal interest against that
other particular interest which the is operating against it
which is waging war against it. The For the any such purpose as that of bribery thence the universal interest
can not bribe come at either the official person himself or his
companion; the particular interest can come at both.
