1823. May 31
Constitut. Code

Now for the first time is the invitation given to consider examine
and discuss the most interesting of all temporal subjects
on the ground of a determinate set of determinate and
throughout mutually consented, and it is hoped consistent
principles. Now for the first time to the subject matter
of this proposed examination and discussion is given the
form and method of the matter of one distinct branch of are and corresponding correspondent
science.

Now in so far as what is said is right and true will be per
be afforded the utmost facility of conception and retentive sense
as to whatever is erroneous and false will be afforded a correspondent
facility of and for detection and exposure.

A reader to whom this subject is a matter of interest
would do well to turn to the A United States publication – the
Federalist: to have on hand that work, and in the other that
of Bl Montesquieu and Blackstone. What children, if sincere
were those subjects of the French and British Monarchies, in
comparison with those Republicans!

As, in the character of the a standard of aptitude rectitude
Montesquieu to readers in general, Blackstone to readers of the
English School were successively each of them a termina
à quo, so at a later period the Federalist: each work at those
different periods respectively constituting in the language of Sir
Humphrey Davy, a resting place for the mind. At the
period of its publication, the present work will, if it be found
to answer in any degree its intended purpose be seen to furnish
another such termina à quo; another such resting
place: what further ulterior advances the nature of the case admitts
of will but constitute an apt subject of inquiry at this the present and all
future periods to the best formed and most aptly formed and best-instructed minds.
