Constitutional Code
Art. In relation to factitious honor or dignity
conferred purely factitious the principles of this Constitution are theres as follows.
Applied to extraordinary public service the tendency
and effect of
By honor purely factitious honor arbitrarily applied and arbitrarily conferred
understand every any title of honor all honour conferred by a title attached to the name or
sym visible symbol of dignity at worn by the person of him
by whom it is possessed, without indication of the particular judicial proof of any individual
service performed or rendered.
Examples of titles of honor attached to the exercise
are the denomination of Prince, Duke, Marquis, Earl or
Count, Viscount, Baron, Baronet, Knight.
Examples of symbols of dignity are, Stars,
Ribbons, Crosses and Garters.
Exceptions excepted, such the institution in virtue by of such honor so conferred
of which such marks of honor are arbitrarily conferred evil is produced in the several shapes following
are productive of the evils following: 1. Diminution of the aggregate mass of the extraordinary public service on which
would otherwise be performed.
Applied to the aggregate mass of such extraordinary
service as would otherwise be rendered, the effect of such honor sotheir tendency and effect Proof or Reason. But Suppose no such factitious honor
is to subtract from then to add to the quantity and value conferred created, the only honor in existence would be that natural
of that which which were there no honor but augmentation honor which attaches itself would have for its source the opinion
of instruments honor or even by natural honor attach any and entertained by the public at large that extaordinary service in
would be produced. For a shape useful to the public had Proof by the individual in question
Reason Proof. Being purely factitious it is of course as been or performed. Add now the factitious honor, the existence
of it supposes the existence of some person by whom it is created and
conferred: fountain of honor is the name by which this person has been
denominated. But no judicial proof being necessary, it is as easy fo
to this living fountain to confer the honor without any regard to public
service ordinary or extraordinary as with reg an account of such service.
He will accordingly do so: and the service for which he will confer it will
always be service in some shape or other rendered to himself, or any person or persons
having influence over him: and in so far as in his opinion. Thus then the

rendering service to others
by means of their
appropriate intellectual and active aptitude, the attention and endeavours will be drawn of from services beneficial to the public to services beneficient to the patron his instruments and favorites.
