1825 Decr 8
Constitutional Code
Ch. XXIV Professional Lawyers
§. 1. Class one only Instruction

In regard of the professional men for their own particular
and sinister interest not in any regard for the interest
of those clients Trustors trust-reposed did the separation take its rise in
the only case in which the time of it can be traced
take its rise. In the Anglo-American United States, at
the time of their respective foundation in the state of
no such separation had place: at present, in some of
them it has taken place in others not. In so far as it has
taken place, the cause of the change has been this. Thus For the per apt performance of
part of the business which in speaking in the Justice
Chamber Deputes a is taken a sort of talent is
requisite which not only in itself much more rare than
those which are requisite for the equally apt performance
of the rest of the business, and at the same time by
publicity of the situation with which it is brought into exercise
is beyond all comparison more extensively exhibited
and rendered capable of being appreciated. For of all
the
It Being at the same time so rare and
its comparative importance so conspicuous, every one
would in proportion to the degree of perfection in which he was
thought to possess it find a correspondently higher price made
to be given to him by all who possessed the means for his
assistance. When in this way the an Attorney in consequence
of his superiority in the art of speaking found clients flocking
in upon him he would say to himself if I conform limit my
assistance to that pat of the business which is performed in the
Judicatory and at the same time moreover can also fill up my time with business
of that sort I shall at the same time have better fees
and less trouble. This considered he acted would act accordingly. the When
a Client came he would say to him, if you pay me accordingly,
I will do perform for you the speaking part of the business, but for the rest you must employ somebody
else.
