1824. Feby. 6.
Constitutional Code.

English lawyers not more dishonest than do politicians

§. Established Systems – their opposite arrangements – English.

On these points In this case directly opposite is has been the policy and practice
of all established systems. Instead of excluding from the situation of Judge
those professors of partiality and insincerity, they bestow upon them exclusive possession the monopoly
of it.

Of this oppositeness the causes are altogether obvious.

1. The persons in whose hands the choice of hired occupants functionaries
for the situation of Judge has been placed have been
men engaged in the exercise of this same profession, and
for the most part those who in the exercise of it have
distinguished themselves by the extraordinary degree in
which the qualities conducive to success have been manifested
by them.

2. That With Among men of this same description
the convivial greater part and in particular the convivial part
of their lives has been 'tis passed and with them and in
their favour social sympathy, in so far as in breasts so
situated it is capable of having place have been operating.

3. For the situati Under the system of Judge-made
law – of spurious factitious and specious law – by which
lots inclusion be Bonaparte, litigation all civilized nations had been
mostly governed, no persons other than such as had been not occupied in the manner
here in question could so much as pretend to any
considerable degree of acquaintance knowledge with the rule of action: to any
such acquaintance as could be supposed to be sufficient
to qualify a man in any tolerable degree for the situation
of a Judge: but with the body of law of which the present
Code forms a part every man who in in the habit of
reading and reflecting on what is read will find it no cause
in any other man of equal strength of intellect to
make himself acquainted.
