Constitutional Code.
Unavoidable as is the limitation thus put to the choice
of persons for this a all important situation in which all men
are dependent for every thing that is dear to them it is not
the less disastrous.
In consequence of it in so far as interest ac
accompanied armed with correspondent power ha can have operated
towards the formation of power character the person by
whom these commanding situations have been occupied have
been persons drawn from situations in which the naturally speaking moral
depravity upon can not be but have been carried to
the highest pitch.
In this profession there is a sort of climax in
natural depravity: the bottom lowest of the profession is occupied
by those in whom depravity is naturally has place in the lowest degree. The
top of the profession by those in whom it is has place in the highest
degree.
In the professional branch the profession is split into
two branches: the Attorney branch and the Advocate or Barrister
branch. In the Attorney branch it is by no that
a man should go through by life without a single act of
dishonesty or insincerity with the correspondent maleficence is by no means impossible:
he who writes this thinks he has known instances.
In the At Advocate branch this absence of insincerity
is not possible: without any deduction worth bringing
here to account, an half of his professional life
is employed in the exercise practice of this vice: and this with all
the energy it is in a man's power to master summon.
