Domestick power
a ground of justification
in the core
of husband father
and guardian permanent
or temporary
Domestick power, or say authority. The
conditions in life, to which this purposed efficient cause
of justification extends itself, are those of husband and father
and guardian. The case of guardianship being
distinguished into permanent guardianship, which
is the condition of the guardian commonly so called,
and more decidedly of that of a master of a boarding-
school. To what modes and degrees , if any,

of corporal vexation, this head of justification
shall be applicable in those cases respectively,
is a question, which for the most part will depend
on the powers which it shall be thought
advisable to allot to the superior in those several
conditions in the non-penal rather
than to the penal code honour, the allotment
of these several powers may naturally be regarded
as appertaining. To that code accordingly are
these questions here referred; to that code, namely,
to the several titles, which like these denominating
for the names of those several conditions
