Offences Severally
Offences affecting person

In these cases the evil of the second order may in
point of extent be considered as included in determinate
bounds, those bounds being constituted by the number of the
persons subjected intended benefitee to the pain of the as far as true
in the case of the Jailor, his Prisoners.

But a sort of reflex evil of the 2d order may
be considered as attaching upon the of all intended
benefitees whose condition subjects them to the pain of a
of that same class: that is to say throughout the whole of the community,
all prisoners the whole aggregate number of the prisoners subjected
to the pain of the aggregate number of the Jailers: for of
any prisoner having being a sufferer in this way by the
of any one Jailor, and this offence is known to remain unpunished,
it can scarce happen but that on the part of all other
prisoners to whom this by ,
conspicuous apprehension more or less considerable intense should have place
the apprehension of suffering the like evil from the operation of the like
cause.
