Penal Code
Offences vs Persons & Reputation
Offences affecting persons,
& property &c
1
Offences affecting
person whether alone
or coupled with property
reputation or condition
in life — collectively
considered

Ch.
Of offences against persons, whether
person alone or person coupled with property, or reputation,
or condition in life. Antecedently to any separate
consideration, all these offences require to be
taken together, and considered in the aggregate. The
reason is that the effect of any one may chance
to be produced by an act, coupled or not with intention,
having in its tendency the production of any
one of those effects on any other. An intention & corresponding act to
produce no more than a slight wound, bruise or
even scratch, may have death for its effect: an intention
and act directed to the production of death, may
terminate in nothing more than a slight wound,
bruize or even scratch.
