Corporal vexation – Damnification – Offences Semipublic

Adulteration of commodities

In so far as the adulterated commodity is of less
value than the unadulterated, the offence belongs to the
head of damnification.

If the commodity be of the number of those by the
adulteration of which habit is injured detrimental or liable to
corporal vexation.

If the adultera it be to customs at large
that the commodity is sold, the offence whether damnification
only or damnification with corporal vexation
only or both, belongs to the head of semi-public offence.

And the case is of the number of those in which
the evil of the offence is encreased receives encrease in magnitude by from the
encrease of in the extent given to it: not decrease,
as in offences against the public purses, in which latter case
the evil of the first order is always less than if the purse
affected had been were that of an individual.

in which the case of which certain damnifications were
combined with not improbably corporal vexations, see the
Examiner of Sunday 13 Jany. 1826: 96 lb of a
strange composition in which lamp black was one in precedent
habitually furnished, to be mixt up with no more than
4 lb of real pepper to be sold as 200 lb of
pepper.
