Ch. V. Instrumts of Delinquency
§. 4 Deception
Ch. V.
Instruments of Delinquency of evil in the shape of Delinquency
§. 1.
With scarce an exception All instruments of good are instruments of evil.
All instruments of evil are instruments of good. Good
and evil – it has been said and seen, are fruits of from the same
tree stock. All medicines are poisons: all poisons are medicines.
To enumerate the instruments of evil would therefore be to
enumerate the several sorts of motives: and the several sorts
of acts to in the exercise of which case are capable of being engaged
by the operation of those several motives, or at any rate those
several sorts of acts which are in a more particular degree apt
be employed in the character of instruments for the production of ulterior
results, all with reference to himself, good for the consent in the eyes of
the agent, or the acts could not take place.
But there are some is a certain class of acts the ingredients grounds
in which belonging to are in a more particular degree adapted
to the production of evil, and accordingly more frequently employed
in the endeavour to produce the results of that nature
than any other acts: more not so as apt to be employed in the production
of evil good effects than as in the production of good effe evil effects: and why?
Even because good effects are capable of being produced without those
evil effects, not.
Instruments of deception – let this be the name of the
class of instrumentary acts here in view.
