never can the reliance placed on his allegation
be so strong as it would have been otherwise.</p>In vain would the goodness of the purpose be pleaded
on his behalf, on any succeeding occasion never could

doubt or the fact of the deviation made from the line of truth

Whether the end or say cause purpose be good or evil
falshood, in whatever shape uttered will be but an instrument:
for taken by itself it is neither good nor evil.
If then the end or say the cause be good, so, in
so far as the particular individual purpose alone is considered,
will be any falshood which being uttered in support of that purpose
other act any incidental collateral evil purpose incidentally attached to it.
But be the purpose ever so good, and on that
account the productive effect of the falshood uttered on the
occasion every so good, consequences of an evil
nature can not but arise, over which consequences to of
such a degree such extent that it is rarely indeed if ever, will they
